Cartilage piercing sizing

Piercings are a beautiful way to adorn your body, and MALT Jewellery has a range of cartilage jewellery to choose from.

Different parts of the body are pierced with different gauge (thickness) of jewellery. Each piece of MALT cartilage jewellery is made for a specific part of the body in the correct gauge(s); in some cases two or more suitable gauges may be available if you prefer a daintier or chunkier look.

See below for the standard gauges for each piercing type available from MALT Jewellery. Confusingly, the larger the gauge number (displayed with a G after the number), the thinner the jewellery – meaning 20G is thinner than 14G.

Piercing gauges:

Nose = 20G, 18G
Septum = 16G, 15G and depending on personal preference, also: 14G (chunkier) and 18G (daintier)
Ear (lobe) = most commonly 20G, also 19G and 18G for some styles
Ear (cartilage) = 16G (forward helix is occasionally also a higher (thinner) gauge); see below for diagram
