Commissions

Exactly to your specifications, one of a kind, made just for you. There's nothing quite like holding a beautiful piece of jewellery in your hand knowing that there's no other piece like it in the world.

Would you like to commission your own bespoke piece from MALT Jewellery? Let's have a chat!

What to know before you start:

1. I only make work that's in my style. I'm assuming that, if you'd like to work with me, it's because you already like the aesthetic of my jewellery.

2. I only make work that's in my area of expertise. I will be honest if you ask me for something that isn't compatible with my skillset. But I will always attempt to recommend another local jeweller who should be able to help you! I also collaborate with other local jewellers and craftspeople on projects, so even if you request a service I don't provide, we may still be able to work together (engraving, for example).

3. You're more than welcome to request a tweak to an existing design, and this doesn't usually incur the same bespoke fees as a completely new design. This includes requesting pieces in other precious metals (18ct gold, for example), or pieces that are larger or smaller than one of my current designs. Creating slightly different iterations of my work is my favourite kind of commission and I have capacity to take on multiple of these a year.

4. I love having customers over to the MALT Studio to discuss custom jewellery projects and I can answer any questions you have. To make the process go as smoothly as possible, please bring some reference material with you, such as a moodboard, your own sketches or even just a list of descriptive words.

5. Consider using sentimental gold (or other precious metals). For many projects, I can incorporate "old" gold into a new design. This is perfect for if you've been given or left a piece of jewellery that you don't wear, but want to remember its origins. Similarly, if you have old jewellery you don't wear anymore, it's a great way to lower the cost of a bespoke piece by reducing the need for me to buy fresh gold.

6. Take a look at my terms of service for commissions (below).

Terms of service for commissions

1. A 50% non-refundable deposit is payable before I begin working on the commission.

2. The remaining 50% will be due upon notification of completion of the project. You will have 14 days to pay from the date of notification. Once you have paid in full, I will post your order (or you are welcome to arrange to collect it from the studio).

3. All gold orders are subject to a potential £50 surcharge at the time the final payment is requested due to unpredictable fluctuations in gold prices.

4. I do not accept returns on commission work for any reason other than an error in workmanship, which I will repair free of charge. Please handle your handmade piece of jewellery with care; I charge my normal repair fees for work that has been damaged due to heavy handling or lack of care.

5. I work hard with customers to ensure the correct size of commissioned jewellery; if you still require a different size, I reserve the right to charge a small resizing fee.

6. If you have any problems with your piece, please contact me and I will try to help you in any way I can - my priority is to make sure you love your new piece of jewellery!
