Hallmarking information

You've probably heard of hallmarks but might not know exactly what they are or how to identify them. You can find the hallmarks and their meanings below.

The UK has some of the strictest legislation around hallmarking of precious metals. This is designed to protect you as the customer and allows me as the maker to prove the quality and value of the jewellery I make. Silver items over 7.78 g in weight and gold items over 1 g must be hallmarked by law in the UK.

In the case of MALT Jewellery, pieces are sent to the London Assay Office where they're tested for purity and hallmarked (stamped) with the corresponding fineness (purity) mark. In addition to the fineness mark, MALT pieces also feature the leopard's head of the London Assay Office and the unique MALT sponsors' mark, which means you and future generations will be able to trace the jewellery's origins.

You can also have date and commemorative marks applied to a piece for an additional fee. You can also have jewellery under the exemption weights hallmarked for an additional fee if you'd like.

Please contact me if you're interested in any additional hallmarking.
